Business Advisory Board

Terrell H. Sachman, CLU, ChFC graduated from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1973 with a B.A. in Psychology and a minor in Business. Immediately following his graduation, he joined this organization on April 1, 1973. By 1983, Terry had achieved the company's distinction of being accepted to the Order of Excalibur, which he re-qualified for in 1997. In 1984, Terry continued his new precedent of success and entered AXA's prestigious Hall of Fame.
 
By 2002, Terry obtained the Hallmark I, II, and III Awards: these heralded honors celebrate lifetime production levels few producers ever achieve. Furthermore, Terry has an exemplary list of annual AXA awards which include: 5 Bronze Eagle Awards, 2 Summit Awards, 2 Legion of Honor Awards, 16 President’s Cabinet Awards, 2 National Council Awards, 26 National Quality Awards, the 1995 Midwest Regional Honor Agent and the 1999 AXA's National Honor Agent. The Honor Agent Awards are of special significance to Terry as they are the highest awards given to AXA's financial professionals. The honorees are chosen exclusively by AXA's management, and are based upon contributions to the community, the company, the industry, and to charitable causes.
 
Terry has been a member of the Chicago Estate Planning Council since 1984. He is a lifetime member of the Million Dollar Round Table achieving “Court of the Table” since 1997. Furthermore, he serves as a board member of the Paramount Planning Group, and as the Managing Director of the Sterling Group, two elite producer groups within the company. As an experienced, dedicated, and successful associate, Terry served on the faculty of AXA's University for three years. He also served a four year term as an advisor to the National Associates’ Forum Executive Committee.
 
Terry will provide his expertise to support our special projects in the insurance and related areas, as well as his knowledge of how high-net worth individuals could create the greatest impact in conjunction with PFC.


BRUCE HAGSHENAS is the President of Benefit Planning Services, Inc. He began his financial career in the early 70s and has an extensive background in both life and disability insurance.  After graduating from Rockford College with Bachelor of Science degrees in Mathematics and Physics, he worked for Aetna Life & Casualty in the group division until 1977.  In 1978, he formed Benefit Planning Services. In 1990, Benefit Planning Services joined Partners Financial which is now known as National Financial Partners (NFP).  Bruce holds an Illinois insurance license for Life, Health and variable insurance products and is securities registered through NFP Securities, Inc.  Bruce has been successful in finding innovative approaches to solving problems for his corporate and individual clients.

Bruce is married to Kelley and has 2 sons, Jordan and Tanner.  He is actively involved in multiple charitable organizations.  Bruce co-founder the Rockford, Illinois Chapter of Partnership for Cures with fellow Rockford philanthropist Jerry Paris. 

 

Thomas J. Romano brings 30 years of banking and loan experience to New Century Bank, where he serves as Senior Vice President of Business Banking. He spent 7 years as Executive Vice President of Bridgeview Bank Group where he was instrumental in growing that organization. Prior to Bridgeview, he spent 20 years as Executive Vice President of First of America Bank where he was responsible for the management of the bank's Northern Illinois lending functions and branch administration of 39 branch locations. He also focused on new business development, relationship management and assisted in the opening of new branches.

Tom received his undergraduate degree from Notre Dame and his MBA from DePaul. He serves as a director of Arlington hospitality, Vista National Insurance and Goldman Philanthropic Partnerships.
 
Tom's marketing and financial management knowledge will be invaluable as we continue to develop our venture philanthropy model.
 
Bruce A. Pivar is a certified financial planner and registered investment advisor with over 20 years of experience in the financial services industry. His clients include charitable trusts, foundations, families, professionals, athletes and businesses. Bruce helps each client accomplish his or her financial goals, assisting with planning for both immediate and long term needs. His knowledge of investment securities, estate planning and insurance matters provides the overall guidance needed in planning the various aspects of asset development and preservation.
 
Bruce's expertise will assist the foundation and its donors in creating unique methods of funding innovative research to accelerate cures for catastrophic diseases.
 
 
Rajeev Bahri, CFA is the Managing Director of TEKchand LLC, a privately held software developer for the Retail and Banking Industry. Prior to founding TEKchand, Mr. Bahri co-founded Vector Financial Group (VFG), LLC, a systematic commodities trading advisor. Mr. Bahri has more than 10 years of experience as a trader and investor in capital markets.
 
He was Vice President in the foreign exchange departments of such money center banks as ABN AMRO, First National Bank of Chicago, and AIG Trading.
 
Mr. Bahri received a Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology, with highest honors and was awarded a Master's Degree in Business Administration from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business in 1991. Mr. Bahri is a Director of the Indo-American Center.
 
Rajeev will help PFC with his extensive business development and systems expertise, as well as his creativity and energy to engage both researchers and donors.
            
 
Wm. Patrick Nichols is the Founder and President of Transition Leadership International, which serves the public by building teams that transform nonprofit/non-governmental organizations and the lives of those they serve. TLI provides “transition leadership” that brings change to organizations prepared to undertake major strategic transitions (turnarounds, start-ups, mergers, strategic redirections, reorganizations, etc.) creating new opportunities for sustained success.
 
Over the last two decades Pat and TLI have served as Interim President and CEO, The Campagna Center , Alexandria, VA; Consultant to Susan G. Komen Foundation, Dallas, TX; Interim Executive Director of American Assn. of University Women (AAUW), Washington, DC ; Interim Director of Giving Partnerships (Marketing and Fundraising); Goldman Philanthropic Partnerships, Deerfield, IL; Interim Executive Vice President (CEO), Painting and Decorating Contractors of , Fairfax, VA; Interim CEO of Business and Professional Women/USA, Washington, DC; Consultant to the World Bank and to Future Harvest; Executive Director of the Goldman Philanthropic Partnerships, Deerfield, IL; Interim President of Youth Venture, Arlington, VA; Special Assistant (Interim) to CFO; University of the District of Columbia; President and CEO, Agriculture Council of , Washington, DC; Director of Marketing/Marketing Manager/Consulting Manager, Price Waterhouse, Kansas City, MO and Dallas, TX; President, EOA Services (market analysis and strategic planning), Kansas City, MO; and Executive Director, Curry Foundation, Washington, DC
 
Pat will bring PFC his extensive not for profit management skills and his history of supporting our founding partner, Goldman Philanthropic Partnerships. 
 

Steven Braun, CLU, celebrated 20 years of service in2006 with Northwestern Mutual Financial Network and The McTigue Financial Group. Steve joined the network office in 1986 and was awarded Representative of the Year for The McTigue Financial Group in 1993 and 2003.
 
Managing Partner, John McTigue offers these comments about Steve: "In an era when Financial Advisors come and go, Steve has shown amazing stability, because he learned early in his career that to succeed in this business he had to earn a client's trust, understand a client's needs, and put a client's interests first to design appropriate, individualized solutions. Nobody does that better than Steve."
 
Steve has earned numerous awards throughout his career, including the National Sales Achievement Award (1988, 1991-2006), the National Quality Award (1989-1990, 1992-2005) and Million Dollar Round Table (Provisional Member 1990; Qualifying Member 1991-1998; Qualifying/Life Member 1999-2006).
 
Steve is a past president and board member of Northwestern Mutual's Financial Representatives Association (FRA). The FRA "represents the interests of financial representatives in an organized way that is consistent with the interests of the Northwestern Mutual policyowners."
 
He is a member of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors, Greater North Shore Estate Planning Council, Association of Advanced Life Underwriters, and has served on Northwestern Mutual's Financial Representative Association Board.
 
Steve has been an active board member of The Entrepreneurship Institute for the past year and has been involved with the organization for 16 years. The Entrepreneurship Institute is a national, non-profit company providing strategies and practical solutions for corporate leaders.
 
Steve is active in his community, working with The City of Hope, Goldman Philanthropic Partnerships and Partnership for Cures, Glenwood School for Boys and Girls, and the Marty Hennessy Jr. Tennis Foundation. Steve resides in Highland Park with his wife, Karen and children, Lauren and David. He enjoys theatre, tennis, camping, photography and golf.  Steve brings his understanding of philanthropy and wealth to support Partnership for Cures.

JERRY PARIS, President of MW Automotive Enterprises, Inc., graduated from the University of Illinois in 1968 with a B.S. in Economics. Jerry went on to graduate study at DePaul University in Chicago. Jerry began his financial career with the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago in the early 1970’s. In 1976, Jerry relocated to Rockford, Illinois to open several Midas Auto Repair Centers in Illinois, Wisconsin, California and Tennessee. 
 
Jerry retired from the U.S. Army Reserves as a Lieutenant after eight years of service and is active in numerous civic and charitable organizations. In most cases, Jerry served in leadership roles within these organizations.  
 
Jerry is the Chairman of the Rockford Illinois Chapter of Partnership for Cures.  Jerry is married to Connie and has two grown children, Rachel and Brad.
