The following video clip highlights two successful medical research projects that have quickly and inexpensively repurposed existing therapies for new uses in new diseases: a Partnership for Cures project creating a better treatment for Autoimmune Lymphoproliferative Syndrome (ALPS) by repurposing a cancer drug, Rapamycin, for use in a children's genetic blood disorder, and a non-Partnership for Cures project at Fordham University that created a better quality of life for children with Familial Dysautonomia, a genetic protein disease of the nervous system, by testing botanical medicines (natural supplements tocotrienols and EGCG) that create more normal protein. This second project has led to the creation of the FD NOW Fund at Partnership for Cures to provide funding for additional repurposing research at Fordham University to find an even better treatment for FD.
