Rediscovery Research™

What is so special about Rediscovery Research™?

Quick Answer-it gets treatments to patients quickly, safely and affordably.

The treatment options for patients with catastrophic diseases have not improved even though the US has invested over $500B dollars in new drug and device research. This "New Discovery Research" generates profits, academic promotion, and intellectual property protection. Patient impact occurs as a consequence of these business incentives, not the primary focus, so patients often go without effective new treatments, especially in patient populations where profit potential is poor.

Rediscovery Research™ quickly and safely impacts patients by reusing, reconfiguring and reapplying already existing drugs, devices, treatment protocols and clinical observations. Philanthropy supports Rediscovery Research™ because philanthropy focuses on near term patient impact instead of profit, academic promotion or intellectual property protection.

Partnership for Cures and our funding partners inspire scientists and clinicians to undertake clinical trials and other Rediscovery Research™. These 1-3 year Patient Impact Projects create better treatment options, improve early diagnosis and lengthen disease remission, mostly through:

- repurposing FDA approved drugs and devices to treat "off label" diseases
- combining older drugs with newer drugs to improve new drug effectiveness
- modifying treatment protocols to make them work better for more patients
- testing observations and successes reported in all types of clinical practice

Project budgets can range from $25,000 to $150,000 with no more than 10% of the budget allocated for overhead, travel and publications.

Rediscovery Research™ provides:

- a high success ratio leading to safe and inexpensive therapies
- low research costs and fast delivery of new effective treatments to patients
- reduced healthcare costs created
